Picture it: Sicily, 1935...

Estelle Getty died. Sad day.

I have a feeling that my subconscious self is going up to people today and saying, "Hello there! Would you like a map of all my buttons?"

Clearly I'm hosting an invitational because people are finding all of them today.

Here's to putting safeties on them.

For my mom's first visit to Seattle in 30+ years and her hubby's first visit EVER, we took 'em to the Fremont Solstice Parade 'n' Festival and then visited the Sculpture Garden where we learned that if'n you take an everyday object and make it BIG, it becomes art. Proof in the Pudding Pics're HERE

Stoopid Human Resources people!

If I breath deep and and repeat this to myself enough times, maybe, just maybe, my day will get better...

Briefly - just paid $300 to have blood drawn from both cats to be sent off to a special lab to be tested for rabies antibodies in preparation for importing them into Japan.

THEN found out that the lab won't test the blood without an approximate departure date...

ALL the phone numbers AND the fax number that the Navy HR people in Hawaii provided me turn out to be DISCONNECTED!!! Unbelievable.

packing list

Here it is, once again. My annual

packing list )

[info]glitch25

So last night was a bit of a day off from what has become the regular grind of life involving heading to the old place, and schlepping things to the new. I enjoyed the last 3 episodes of Deep Space Nine, and finally got to bring closure to a series I started and stopped many years ago. Also got to bring the internets to the spare bedroom/office which means we'll get access to our printers again. This was pretty much the bulk of my existence yesterday evening.

Today, more schlepping. Maybe some cleaning. and time to fix the M*****F***ing futon. And methinks a trip to the pumpkin patch is in order.

In the meantime, I think maybe a dip in the hottub is also in order. I am pathetically sore.

The first weekend I have free is the weekend of 16 & 17 August. I'm hoping that Will will have either quit by then, or he can talk his boss into having the weekend off. . .

Anyone care to join us?

How about two devilishly cute guys & their beautiful Lady who are already up in that neck of the woods? Wanna?? ;)

I can't believe that this has been going on since May and I'm just now finding out about it!! Art Spiegelman even gave a presentation!

[seattle] discussion on religious communities in Northwest on KUOW right now

Weekday on KUOW 94.9 has a discussion going on right now on religion and religious communities in the PNW.

For SOME reason, I think this would interest a lot of you. 94.9 FM or listen online.

Love is a Bird, She Needs to Fly

My mother is visiting me for a few days. It's finals week here for me, I have one more paper and two exams to finish while she's here but we're still managing to spend lots of time together. Anyway, we saw this film last night:

It was beautiful and so sad. India under the Raj with a British businessman, his Indian right-hand man and the Indian housemaid. If it's available down there, I suggest you watch it if only for the scenery.

Internet Friend meme

If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

More Pics - Monte Cristo Trail

Yesterday after picking up [info]lightfoote from work, we drove up towards the Mountain Loop Hwy to check out the Monte Cristo Trail. Apparently November before last had a bit of nasty weather which farked up the trail massively. We only wandered out about a mile, encountering some impressive landslides (only cleared 1.5 weeks ago), SNOW!, the river w/not so useful bridges now that the river's shifted, and some lovely views. 'Nother time I'm looking forward to going all the way to the end of the trail 'n' back. Clickie for Pickies

"It really looks like home now," she says, looking at the cat5 network cable tacked neatly to the crown molding, running from one end of the house to the other...

Yup... I live with a geek lover. :-)

Possibly the coolest shit ever

If you're a WoW player anyway: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=34806

...if you happen to be in beta, can I get a screenshot? I don't think I qualify for a beta key, sadly - clicked the opt-in thing when I saw it, though!

But neat! I AM IMMORTAL. For as long as the servers are up.
